The side effects come in slowly, so I didn't realize it at first. though my hair became real greasy I needed to wash it every day to every 1.5 days), my skin was oily, lots of acne with inflammation under the skin. I always had this, but t with this IUD it increased. after the Mirena was removed, everything turned back to normal.

I am definitely not impressed with the mirena, I've had it now for about a year and a half and I have a period practically every week. So over this.

After my pregnancies, a coil seemed to be the solution as I can't handle and contraceptive pills because they give me migraines. But the whole time I had this, I had ongoing blood loss, for more than 3 months. Horrendous. I was so weak. When I went to see the gynaecologist, I was told that everything was fine and I just had to be patient. Then when I went back to see my doctor for what felt lik...

Had the mirena for 3 months now and i'm really happy, almost no periods, insertion wasn't pleasant and I had one headache/migraine, but afterwards it does what it needs to do.

After 5 years satisfied walked around with my Mirena, he had to be replaced in May. The replacement really hurt a lot. Cramps still had 2 to 3 days. After a month or two I was suffering from gloom and unexplained migraines, worse than I normally had. Recently I heard that the Mirena today contains a new substance that causes this. Have him let it remove August 31st. My headaches and a porti...

With the first IUD it went very well. With the second, it's not as good. I have a loss of libido, fatigue, sadness and especially 10 kilos more in 10 years since the break. Still, I do 4 hours of sport a week, I have extreme food hygiene, a mandatory hydration but I intend to have it removed before its expiration date. I hope this time my gynecologist will agree, because the last time he did no...

After having had a copper coil for years I switched to the Mirena coil. Right from the start it was great and I felt excellent. I'm now 54 and I've still got a coil. This is my 4th Mirena. My GP said that you experience fewer menopause symptoms and I think that he's right as I haven't got any :-) but according to my blood tests I am definitely going through the menopause. When the GP put it in ...

I'm a 21-year-old woman with no children and I've had the mirena for about one and a half years now, after taking the pill for 4 years. The insertion was okay, painful but over quickly. Then I had spotting and cramps for about 3 weeks but that soon went away. Subsequently I had very light periods every month, which became less and less after about 9 months. Unfortunately, I have really struggle...

After an ectopic pregnancy on the copper coil, I switched to the Mirena and I'm now on my second one, after a planned pregnancy. While it's great that I hardly menstruate at all, I've definitely noticed an effect on my "personality". I am a lot more anxious and emotional. Sometimes I don't even recognise myself when I overreact to some things. All really quite worrying. My libido is also really...

I had a mirena coil inserted four years ago because I was fed up of taking the pill. The insertion itself was incredibly painful (I haven't had children) and I had stomach ache all day as well as sleeping a lot, but it's totally worth it. I hadn't had a period at all until last month when I suddenly got cramps and bled for a few days. I do notice that I still suffer with period pains (binge eat...

I had it inserted during my period (the cervix is easier to reach during that time). I was very happy using Mirena at first. After 3 months my period disappeared. However after a year started getting serious acne problems. At first I didn't relate it to the Mirena, because I had a lot of stress during my studies. After graduation the acne remained and I started looking for side effects caused b...

Advised by a friend whose father was a gynaecologist. Before my pregnancy I had the mirena coil. I think I was about 28 then.

Having my coil inserted was horrendous! I don't have children so it really, really hurt! I had to lie down in a dark room for half an hour before I could leave. I am having loads of mood swings and really irregular periods. Mostly 7 days long. Along with terrible stomach pains, almost like contractions... I'm never having one again after this!!

I am really happy with the Mirena IUS. Soon I’ll be up for my third replacement. It gives me no problems. Having it put in feels a bit unpleasant, yoga practice really helps me during that moment. I have never had a period since, not even during stressful times. I hope to continue this use up to my menopause.

Despite having heard so many negative stories about the Mirena, I can only say that I am totally satisfied with it. I haven’t had a period in years, so nice! No side effects at all. The only drawback in the whole process is the placement, but that over with very quickly. It’s the perfect solution for me, I wouldn’t change a thing.

On August second my doctor placed a Mirena. Immediately after I experienced a stabbing pain in my belly. After examination in hospital the IUS appeared to have pierced my womb. I then had to wait two weeks before having it removed in hospital. It was surgically removed. Afterwards I had a very severe bleeding which resulted in me being rushed to hospital by ambulance and rescued by a good spec...

Because of severe anaemia due to heavy blood loss the gynaecologist inserted a mirena. The insertion was sensitive but there weren't any other problems with it, no back or stomach pains. Then the side effects started; in the first week I had one migraine, throughout it I had a feeling of constant pressure on the back of my head and ears. Severe hair loss, loss of libido, feeling like my energy ...

After having a coil inserted all l had was problems. I had really heavy flow (which led to anaemia). Libido considerably reduced. I became depressed. GP didn't take it seriously, coil needed to stay in. With the consequence that it spontaneously fell out after 7 months. The blood clots pushed it out. I was really happy with the coil because you can have it in for 5 years. But at the end of the ...

Because I had lots of breakthrough bleeding with the pill I decided to have a mirena inserted. After reading this page I was so close to cancelling my appointment.. there are so many horror stories about it. But I did go last week and it wasn't exactly fun! It did feel a bit uncomfortable but the pain was bearable. It felt like I had quite bad stomach cramps. But I'd do it again! The day after ...

After I had my daughter, on the advice of the GP, I had a Mirena coil fitted. In terms of protection this was fine, in terms of side-effects not: I felt bloated, had mood swings, lots of acne. My partner also found the coil irritating on occasion. Finally decided, for my own peace of mind, to have it removed. Painless!

I had terrible side-effects on the pill, especially depression. In 2008 I had a Mirena fitted for the first time, the fitting was painful, but the pain went away after a couple of hours. It did the job for almost 7 years, as long as I wasn't menstruating it was working, according to my GP. Now I've had second, fitting was more painful than the first time. But it's worth doing because I find it ...

Had a coil since November 2015. Because I had previously had a coil and then had to have it removed because of severe stomach cramps, I thought that my stomach cramps were caused by the coil. Apparently that wasn't the case. When I switched to the pill I became a lot more moody, not to even mention my monthly periods. Terrible amounts of stomach cramps and could hardly walk because the pain in ...

Last year, for the second time, the GP fitted me with a Mirena coil because the first one had been in since 2009. The first time he warned me about the pain and advised me to take pain relief beforehand. When it was put in there was a brief painful stab and for the next day I was a bit dizzy on occasion. Apart from that no other problems. Additional advantage was/is that I no longer have any pe...

Going to the GP for a specialist once every five years to have this inserted and then for five years nothing else needed. For me, the best side effect is that I hardly bleed at all any more, really fantastic.

Yesterday I had the Mirena coil inserted… While they were inserting it I cried and begged them to stop… It took about half an hour for them to do it, because I had three bouts of such bad pain that I was sick… I must have shouted at everybody in the GP surgery hahaha. Too high a blood pressure and almost fainting when I think back on the pain I throw up again… It would seem that having children...

When I was 15, I had my first coil. I had to take the pill for a long time because of severe menstrual problems. I had this in for 4 years, until I had it taken out. When I was 20, I had it put back in again. Putting it back in went wrong a few times. This was not a pleasant experience. Luckily, I don't menstruate any more and I feel quite safe for the next 5 years.

Tried to have a Mirena fitted several times. The last time I went to a gynaecologist. Really happy about it. It was painful when it was put in and I had cramps for the rest of the day but it's more than worth it for once every five years. No periods, no pain and most importantly no pregnancy. Only negative is cost of €160 if you haven't got much money. But a kid is definitely more expensive!

I have read a lot of negative stories. That can happen. Every body is different. The worst thing about the coil... is having it put in!! Oh my God! But a friend of mine had one and all she felt was a little prick. So you see. Every body is different. Before this I had a copper coil for 3 months and was really emotional. Dog, baby, etc... everything was a reason to cry. But then I switched to th...

Felt extremely stressed after the Mirena was put in. Change in my personality. Normally quite calm, afterwards felt like I couldn't do anything. After it was put in continued blood loss (foul smelling). Fast, severe hair loss. Had the Mirena taken out. Took a long time for my hair to grow back.
