I had a mirena coil inserted four years ago because I was fed up of taking the pill. The insertion itself was incredibly painful (I haven't had children) and I had stomach ache all day as well as sleeping a lot, but it's totally worth it. I hadn't had a period at all until last month when I suddenly got cramps and bled for a few days. I do notice that I still suffer with period pains (binge eating, mood swings, (lower) stomach cramps). I called the GP and it's probably because the coil is losing its efficacy for me. It's different for everybody but I would definitely recommend it!
