Mirena

Levonorgestrel (24 microgram/24h) for contraception / birth control
I'm a 21-year-old woman with no children and I've had the mirena for about one and a half years now, after taking the pill for 4 years. The insertion was okay, painful but over quickly. Then I had spotting and cramps for about 3 weeks but that soon went away. Subsequently I had very light periods every month, which became less and less after about 9 months. Unfortunately, I have really struggled with side effects. My libido has virtually disappeared, I'm really irritable and get drastic mood swings, including suicidal thoughts, which I've never experienced before. Despite this, I think it's a good contraception and if the side effects hadn't been so severe, I definitely would have kept it.
