Experiences with Amoxicillin

I was prescribed this drug for a really bad toothache from an unfinished root canal. It lessened the pain, but did not completely stop the pain. Good medication, after four days my problems were already quite a bit better. no side effects. If you feel ill, get a medicine prescribed to you that makes you feel better. Focus on getting better!

The medication works to treat the cause, thought I still needed pain meds. Lots of side effects, personally I would not recommend this medication.

I'd had a high temp (39°C to 40.1°C) for 10 days. After just 10 mins the GP diagnosed me with a bacterial infection in my airways. Prescribed this for my jaw inflammation. While I was using it I had no problems with the side effects until the last day, when I came out in a rash all over. Thick, red spots all over me with a terrible itching sensation. The inflammation has gone now, but the rash (nettle rash) is still there, 2 weeks after stopping the course, it's terrible, I'm never having these antibiotics again.

My son (4 yrs) got this medicine for a pneumonia (which wasn’t the cause it seemed after a second opinion). His illness rapidly deteriorated with a high fever. After 2 days he was covered with rash with a swollen throat and couldn’t stand any light. It was an allergic reaction. It’s been a week now and he is still not recovered from the amoxicilline. Tired, rash and stomach ache.

On day 6 I developed a vaginal yeast infection and one day later I was itching all over with a red rash. It was worst in my groin, it was so bad i broke the skin with scratching. Terrible itch in my hands. So I am never having this again.

Literally a shite tablet. The effect of the medicine is out-and-out great. The side effects on the other hand are terrible. Diarrhoea, tiredness, headache, etc. etc. all day long. Makes it pretty difficult to stay the course.

At the moment it's 3:00 a.m. and once again I'm sitting in bed with a bucket next to me. These anitbiotics are literally making me sick. Bleurgh, all I can do is spew. No way can I hack this for 5 days.

Because of these antibiotics, I developed a yeast infection within 3 days that I couldn't do anything about because the usual salves etc. didn't work. So pretty terrible. At least I didn't have pain in my inflamed throat any more.

Because of a simple urinary infection, the GP prescribed this medicine for me. From day 1 I was nauseous, had headaches and bladder cramps which meant I couldn't go to the toilet any more. Six months ago I had my first amoxicillin course because of an attack of fever. No side-effects and better within couple of days. Four weeks ago because of ongoing cough and flu. I've had pharyngitis for 6 months. Amoxycillin didn't help at all and I got really bad muscle pain and cramps from it, so much that I couldn't walk. Stopped taking it 5 days ago and there's no alternative I can take because I breastfeed overnight...I finally stopped taking them with resistance pills from the chemist.

Straight after finishing the course the symptoms came back worse. GP didn't say anything about sensitivity to sunlight and I developed a serious irritation.
