The doctor had prescribed paroxetine for depression, thinking that with some medication and a few sessions with a psychologist my problems could be solved. The doses were upped a few times to 30 mg. Even then it didn't seem to work. The side effects are less serious than I expected of an anti-depressant, but nonetheless they are irritating (drowsiness, nausea, headache). Stopping wasn't easy, I had withdrawal symptoms like dizziness, vertigo, 'power surges' in my head, blurry sight, headache and nausea. After 2 weeks these symptoms were gone. I would have tolerated the side effects if the medicine had worked.
