Had ulcerative colitis four years ago. Treatment with cortisone was no longer effective. After stopping the treatment I relapsed straight away. So the specialist prescribed me azathioprine. I was supposed to increase to 200 mg/day and it should have taken a few weeks before I noticed any effects. However after just one week it was already better. When I got to 200 mg I had felt continuously nauseous. Of my own accord I reduced my dose to 100 mg/day in the evening. Since then (2.5 years ago) I haven't had any problems with colitis, totally normal bowel movements. My regular kidney and liver tests are also not alarming. It has been my salvation up till now!
