Falling down on the street, I fractured my upper arm. I asked the surgeon for a dexa (bone density) scan, given my age and on account of the fracture. Had the dexa scan and, yep, osteoporosis. Prescribed Ibandronate for 5 years, 1 tablet a month as well as a daily dose of 2 calcium chews/vitamin D tablets. After 4 years, on the advice of my physiotherapist, asked for a new dexa scan to see if the pills had had any effect. Got the dexa scan from my GP and, amazingly, my bone density was so improved that now they think it might be osteopenia. But I still need to be careful because I could still break any of my bones.
